Fear

I couldn't help but notice how this text from 50 years ago applies to the current situation in Greece.

However complex and solid it seems, civilization is actually quite fragile. It can be destroyed.
What are its enemies?

First of all, fear.

Fear of war, fear of invasion, fear of plague, fears that make it simply not worthwhile constructing things or planting trees of even planning next year's crops.

It's this lack of actions for fear of an uncertain future that hurts most of all.
